Right Action Needs a Sincere Intention
After Session 038 showed that righteousness cannot be reduced to symbols, Al-Bayyinah 98:5 takes us to the inward center of action: worship is directed sincerely to Allah and then embodied in real obedience.

Al-Bayyinah speaks of clear proof arriving through a Messenger reciting purified pages and of division after knowledge had come. Verse 5 restates the core command: serve Allah with religion made pure for Him, remain upright, establish worship, and give the poor-due.
Sincerity therefore does not cancel outward obedience. Nor does visible worship automatically prove sincerity; intention belongs to the heart, is fully known by Allah, and must continually be guarded by the servant.

Ibn Kathir explains mukhliṣīna lahud-dīn as worshipping Allah alone, leaving shirk, and following the upright way. The mention of prayer and zakat shows that sincerity toward Allah appears in concrete obligations rather than remaining a feeling.
Al-Tabari: devotion unmixed with association
Al-Tabari emphasizes making obedience pure for Allah and being hanif—turning away from deviation toward tawhid. The central question is the true object of worship, not one's image before people.

Documentation, reporting, and public communication can serve legitimate purposes; the danger begins when appearance replaces substance or trust becomes image management.
🧭 Sincerity is examined through one's own direction, not proven by image
Praise, documentation, position, performance metrics, or visible results do not automatically prove or disprove sincerity. They may exist for legitimate reasons, while the heart remains a domain that people cannot read with certainty. Reflection on sincerity is therefore safest when directed toward oneself: what am I actually seeking through this deed?
That question also does not require waiting until intention feels perfect before doing good. Intention can be examined and realigned while obligations continue to be carried out in the right way.
🔎 Intention Alignment Check: what changes when human recognition changes?
As an editorial reflection tool, examine four points: purpose—for whom is this deed directed; recognition—does motivation collapse merely because praise is absent; substance—is appearance becoming more important than doing the work correctly; and correction—when mixed motives are noticed, do I realign them without using that discovery as an excuse to abandon an obligation.
This check cannot measure a person's degree of sincerity. It only helps the person acting notice shifts in motivation that deserve reflection.
⚖️ Guarding intention does not mean rejecting documentation or recognition
Reports, public communication, portfolios, awards, or expressions of thanks can serve legitimate functions. Their presence does not justify accusing someone of showing off, just as their absence does not prove that someone is necessarily sincere. The person acting should guard against these means replacing the purpose and substance of the deed.
Verses about sincerity should therefore not become weapons for reading other people's hearts. Human evaluation of work remains tied to actions and evidence that can be known, while the reality of intention belongs to Allah's knowledge.
🚧 Boundaries for using the Intention Alignment Check
The Intention Alignment Check is not a new religious method, a fatwa, a sincerity score, a tool for detecting showing off, or a way to know how Allah judges someone's heart or deeds. Praise, success, failure, popularity, and anonymity are not standalone proof of sincerity.
Session 008 retains tawakkul and the relationship between effort and outcome; Session 047 retains integrity and accountability for deeds independent of human oversight. Session 039 stays narrow to Quran 98:5: purifying the direction of worship toward Allah while preserving correct outward obedience.
