Verses 7–8 close Surah Ash-Sharh after reminders of expanded breast, lifted burden, raised mention, and the repeated statement that with hardship comes ease. The ending does not point to passivity after relief, but to renewed striving and hope directed to Allah.

Ibn Kathir
Ibn Kathir reports explanations from the early Muslims that when a person finishes an affair or worldly task, he should strive in worship and supplication. The explanations converge on not leaving available time without orientation toward Allah.
Al-Tabari
Al-Tabari records several explanations of finishing and striving—finishing prayer, worldly affairs, or a task—while emphasizing earnest turning in supplication and worship. Verse 8 makes Allah the direction of longing and hope.
🤲 Authentic Hadith
In Sahih al-Bukhari 6465, the Prophet ﷺ teaches that the deeds most beloved to Allah are those done most consistently even if small. This complements the verse's rhythm: earnestness need not mean endless large activity, but sustained, directed worship.

Fact from revelation: after finishing, the Prophet ﷺ is commanded to strive and direct longing to Allah.
Lesson/analogy: after a project, exam, target, or busy season ends, we need a conscious transition. Without a new direction, time easily falls into heedlessness or limitless distraction.
Boundary: the verse does not prohibit rest. The body has rights and the Sunnah teaches balance. What is corrected is loss of orientation; proportionate rest can prepare a person to return to good work.
🌍 Life & Application
Many people can work intensely under a deadline yet lose structure when the target is complete. In work and digital life, empty space is quickly filled by notifications, scrolling, or another task without reflection. The verses give two compasses: strive in what matters and keep the heart's final longing directed to Allah.

Productivity does not mean never stopping; it means that after stopping, we know where hope is directed and what the next strength is for.

After completing a major target, do I give thanks and reset direction, or immediately seek the next distraction?

Is my hope more attached to the result of work or to Allah who controls the result?
